Andean Reference was founded by a small collective of ethnobotanists and horticulturists dedicated to bridging the gap between traditional South American botanical wisdom and global plant collectors. We recognized that the increasing global interest in historical species like Echinopsis pachanoi (San Pedro) and Echinopsis peruviana (Peruvian Torch) was putting pressure on native habitats due to wild poaching.
To combat this, we set out to build a supply chain based entirely on agricultural sustainability. By contracting directly with registered growers in the high-altitude valleys of Peru, we ensure that every single specimen we offer is grown in managed nursery environments or harvested from mature wild stands using regenerative, non-destructive pruning techniques.
This means we never harvest the entire plant. Instead, mature branches are carefully pruned, allowing the base cactus to continue growing and producing offsets, preserving the local ecosystem and wild genetics for generations to come.
